The Wilmar Group is a large agribusiness conglomerate specializing in the production and trade of palm oil. In November , signatories from community groups, supported by local and international NGOs, lodged a complaint with the CAO in relation to two investments that were then active. The complaint related to unresolved land disputes between local communities and PT Asiatic Persada PT AP , a company that was until a majority-owned subsidiary of Wilmar that owned and operated palm oil plantations.

The complainants alleged that the company invoked government forces to dismantle a settlement on disputed land, which they said was contrary to previous agreements established between the community, government representatives, and the company. CAO found the complaint eligible for further assessment and traveled to the field to meet with relevant stakeholders in December The five different community groups identified during the assessment subsequently reached an agreement with the company to engage in a dispute resolution process.

In the Muarajambi Temple Compound Site that covers an area of hectares, there were at least 82 ruins of ancient buildings made of brick construction. Seven of these ancient temples have been given intensive conservation treatment; meanwhile the remaining structures are covered with primary and secondary vegetation, and surrounded by the local community plantation of Sumatran endemic plants planted by the local people known as Menapo.

In addition to that conservation treatment, several of the ancient canals and the old ponds that were previously covered with water vegetation have been cleared and are now restored to normal, such as the ancient canals in Jambi River and the Telago Rajo Pond. Jambi , also spelled Djambi , kotamadya municipality and propinsi or provinsi ; province , southeastern Sumatra , Indonesia. The province is bounded by the province of Riau to the north, by the Strait of Berhala to the east, and by the provinces of South Sumatra Sumatera Selatan and Bengkulu to the south and West Sumatra Sumatera Barat to the west and northwest. The city of Jambi , in the eastern region, is the provincial capital. In the 7th century the area was part of the Buddhist Srivijaya empire of southern Sumatra, and by about the 12th century, the city of Jambi had become the centre of that empire.

After the decline of Srivijaya in the 13th century, the area subsequently formed part of the Majapahit empire of eastern Java. The rise of Islam in the Malay Archipelago during the 16th century was accompanied by the formation of a separate Muslim state of Jambi. The ruler of Jambi participated in an alliance against Sultan Iskandar Muda ruled —36 of Aceh in northern Sumatra, later refused to accept suzerainty of the Mataram state of Java, and cooperated with the Dutch who had entered the region in the early 17th century against Mataram.

Dutch colonial rule was firmly established in the early 20th century. Almost one-third of the province is covered by the Barisan Mountains in the west, whose spurs thrust eastward, forming deep ravines and valleys. The mountains are surmounted by volcanic cones, including Mount Masurai 9, feet [2, metres] and Mount Sumbing 8, feet [2, metres]. Mangroves are found in the estuaries and along the tidal rivers in the east.
